Remote working can be convenient but can also impact your safety and that of others around you. When using a softphone on a computer your current location may not be within the Randolph Main Building Site.
For safety it is important for Emergency Services to be aware of your calling location. E911, or Enhanced 911, is a means for wireless phone users in North America to provide more accurate location information when calling 911 emergency services. Providing accurate E911 information within your 8x8 Work for Desktop settings will allow the proper emergency services to locate you more easily when you are calling from your 8x8 Work services and avoid sending responders to an incorrect location.
When calling 911 from 8x8 Work apps, Emergency Services will respond to the address as listed in your E911 settings.
To Change Your E911 Address
- Log in to 8x8 Work for Desktop
- From the left navigation, select Settings
- Select Account settings
- From the Account settings submenu, select Emergency address
The Address for the Randolph Main Building is listed as the Site Address.
CHECK "Use the Site address" whenever working within the Randolph facility.
Add an Additional Emergency Address
Adding and specifying your Address is important for managing your safety during business events such as traveling, working at other offices or working remotely.
- In the Emergency address section
- If the Enter address manual switch is toggled OFF, start typing an address into "Select an address" field an select the address.
If you are unable to select your address you can enter an address manually
- UNCHECK the "Use the Site address"
- If you have already added an address you can Select it from the list of addresses
- Otherwise, click Add new address
- Select a Country
- Toggle ON Enter address manually switch, and then Enter your Address information in the form
- Click the "Validate" button for 8x8 to confirm the address for E911
A status message will appear if the address is eligible for E911
Try updating and revalidating your address if you receive an address invalid message Emergency service not available for this address?
The system may suggest validated alternatives matching your entry. Select the best one for your location.
Tips on Emergency Address Formating:
- Remove apostrophes, from your address: e.g., "OBrian" is accepted, "O'Brian" is not
- Remove the number mark (#) from your address: e.g., "Unit 13" is accepted, "Unit #13" is not
- Use clear numbering for secondary addresses: e.g., "Floor 13" is accepted, "13th Floor" is not
Remember to Click Save to save all the changes you have made to your 8x8 profile.
At the bottom of the Account settings page, click Save.
You should see the message Settings saved successfully at the top of the screen.
